Visit the beautiful un-spoilt old French whaling depot of Akaroa. A charming small township nestled in an inner Harbour bay of Akaroa Harbour on Banks Peninsula.

The township contains a host of historic buildings, craft, and gift shops together with a multitude of idyllic photo opportunities. Lunch is available at the naturally picturesque setting of Akaroa Village at the popular Bully Hayes. (Lunch is an optional extra) In the afternoon enjoy the Akaroa Harbour Cruise on the Canterbury Cat. On your return journey to Christchurch a stop will be made at the Barry’s Bay Cheese factory, where you will get to sample some fine New Zealand cheese

You will be picked from your accommodation by your guide in a private SUV and entertained with the history of Christchurch on the 30-minute drive our to Sumner/Lyttelton where your walk will commence. Hot drinks are provided at a local café before setting off along the coastal track. Visit the Crater Rim surrounding the caldera of the ancient volcano. Visit the newly restored WWII coastal defence battery, Scotts Hutt, and take in amazing views of the rugged Pacific coastline stretching across Pegasus Bay to the often-snow-covered Southern Alps, Lyttelton Harbour and wide expanses of the Pacific Ocean. Total walking time is approximately 2.5 hours before returning to Christchurch City.

Spend your day getting close to nature. Travel by road enjoying the rural pastoral scenes of North Canterbury, to Kaikoura where mountains meet sea. Experience the grand architecture, beautiful gardens, and scenic viewpoints on a half-day city tour of Christchurch. Wander the Mona Vale Gardens with pretty ponds and water features, drive through the city centre once with its historic buildings and architecture now heavily destroyed and damaged by the Earthquake hitting the city in February 2011. See for yourself both the destruction of the central city and the rebuild that is taking place. You will view the botanical gardens in the central city and the seaside suburb of Sumner.

Travel to the Sign of the Takahe to admire the spectacular views over the Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps. The tour then moves on to The International Antarctic Centre. This features a recreation of the atmosphere of Antarctica with a snow and ice experience, the blue penguin encounter, a 4-D Movie experience and an exhilarating Hägglund ride.

Stops for photo opportunities at all the key destinations

This option departs at 9.00 am and arrives at the International Antarctic Center by 12.30 pm. There are scheduled departures from the International Antarctic Center every hour from 1.30 pm, until 4.30 pm.

Experience the grand architecture, beautiful gardens, and scenic viewpoints on a half-day city tour of Christchurch.

The tour commences in the central city of Christchurch and covers the area which was completely devastated by the Christchurch earthquakes in February 2011. The guide will explain both the history of the city and the effects of the earthquake, you will see for yourself both the destructive powers of nature and the rebuild taking place. On leaving the inner city, the tour travels to Mona Vale a historic homestead and gardens. We then travel to the Sign of the Takahe, an historic building with a lookout providing spectacular views over the city, Canterbury Plains and to the Southern Alps. The tour then travels via the Port Hills and Lyttleton Harbour by way of the Sign of the Kiwi and Governors Bay to the Port of Lyttleton. The tour proceeds through the Lyttleton Harbour tunnel to the seaside suburb of Sumner and cave rock before returning to the central city where the tour will conclude.
